Chapter 5: Three Houses

A few days later, the brothers began building.
Snout chose bricks.
He worked slowly and carefully, making sure every brick was straight.
Trotter chose sticks.
He built a cheerful little house with a round window and a small porch.
Porky chose straw.
His house went up quickly.
"Look!" he said proudly. "Finished!"
Snout looked at the little straw house.
"It certainly was quick."
Trotter looked at his own house.
"Mine took a little longer."
Snout nodded.
"And mine took longer still."
The three brothers stood together and admired their work.
None of them knew that people would one day tell stories about their houses.
For now, they were simply three brothers who had built three homes.
That evening, they sat outside beneath the stars.
Porky brought out a plate of biscuits.
"To our houses," said Trotter.
"To our family," said Snout.
"And to biscuits," added Porky.
They all laughed.
The moon rose above the trees, and the three brothers went to bed feeling happy and safe.
