Chapter 4: A House in the Wood

The rabbit hopped away, and the brothers followed the path a little farther.
Soon they discovered something wonderful.
There was a tiny empty cottage hidden among the trees.
It had a crooked door, two round windows, and a roof covered with moss.
"Who lived here?" wondered Trotter.
Snout carefully opened the door.
Inside was a small room with a fireplace, a wooden table, and three little chairs.
Porky's eyes grew wide.
"Three chairs!"
Trotter laughed.
"Perhaps this house was waiting for us."
They decided not to stay, because the cottage clearly belonged to someone, even though nobody was there.
Before leaving, Snout noticed three old building materials stacked beside the cottage.
There were bundles of straw, a pile of sticks, and several neat piles of bricks.
Trotter smiled.
"Imagine building three little houses."
Porky nodded.
"I would build mine beside a bakery."
Snout chuckled.
"Of course you would."
They walked home before the sun went down.
That evening, they could not stop talking about the cottage.
The idea of building their own little houses had planted a seed in their minds.
