The next morning, the sun shone through the curtains.
Snout was already awake.
Trotter was looking for his favourite hat.
And Porky was still asleep.
"Porky!" called Trotter.
No answer.
"Porky!" called Snout.
A sleepy voice came from under the blanket.
"Is it breakfast time?"
The brothers laughed.
Soon they had packed a small basket with apples, sandwiches, and three bottles of water.
They set off down the woodland path.
The trees were tall and green, and little birds hopped from branch to branch.
They passed a sparkling stream and a meadow filled with yellow flowers.
"This is wonderful," said Trotter.
Porky sat beneath a tree and opened the basket.
"This is lunch," he said.
"We have only just left home," said Snout.
Porky shrugged.
"I like to be prepared."
After their lunch, they continued along the path until they reached a crossroads.
One path went left.
One went right.
And one went straight ahead into a quiet part of the wood.
The three brothers looked at one another.
"Which way?" asked Trotter.
Snout studied the paths.
Porky pointed at the middle one.
"That one looks like it might lead to snacks."
So they followed it.
